Kenny Lattimore: Weekend

WeekendOriginally written for phatmag.com in August 2001

Kenny Lattimore’s debut effort for Arista – Weekend – is solid. I mean we all knew Kenny had it like that when he dropped the amazing For You with Sony, but they were giving him no love on the promotion front (rumor has it they didn’t want him to cane Maxwell!)

A switch to Arista and some tight production, and the man is sounding correct! If love is what you want and the Face/LA Reid/Simmons produced Right down to it will soon be blowing up the airwaves and the clubs, and for those who want to get down, Come to me (w/ Raphael Saddiq), Lately, Things I’ll Do for you and Can you feel me (feat. Shanice) will help you get your groove on.

On lyrics, Kenny doesn’t disappoint, coming with lines like “Can I introduce my love to you” and “a melody wrapped in Queen and dream perfectly describes you.” Damn! A little cheesy maybe, but it works when its sung right 🙂 If you weren’t planning to buy this, change your mind now.
